Often the "all nighter" is something I do, but it's voluntary. I can get so much more work done through the night, without any distractions to disrupt my concentration, that I choose to do it purposefully. As above, taking breaks is both wise and productive. I take 15 minute breaks every 2 hours or so, go over to my dart-board and shoot a quick game of 301 or Tactics, then wash my face with cool water, clean my glasses with soap and water, get a soda or snack, and then go back to my studio refreshed, ready to continue.
Once the sun comes up, I'll make a fresh pot of coffee, have some fresh fruit and a bagel for breakfast, go outside and get some fresh air, water the plants in the patio, and go get the newspaper from the front driveway. That usually takes 45 minutes to an hour, and takes the edge off my physical state, and though somewhat "foggy" for an hour or two, after that things seem normal for the rest of the day.(tu)
But boy oh boy, do I sleep great the next night...B)
