GeneL, I think even if you attempted the battery repair, and it was not successful, that the parts would go for a pretty good price.
Based on the available batteries that I've seen online for my Clie´ NX73 it seems that there are "extended" batteries for not much more than the stock battery and they fit in the same space.
I already downloaded the replacement instructions quite a while ago, so I'm thinking it probably would be worth getting it to work again and, perhaps, sell it.
I forgot to mention I even have the wireless card that goes in the pop-up slot on the back of the Clie´ plus a beautiful leather case.
I guess I'll have to make this a project
