I'm not sure about the Beige G3's, but on Smurfs and G4's I've heard of data loss when using 160's that way as the data on the drive approaches the 128GB limit.
Edit: You could, of course, just buy/borrow/steal a PCI IDE card with big drive support and avoid all of this BS while enjoying faster drive access than you'd get from the native bus. Or install a FireWire card and use the drive in an external case. What self-respecting FrankenBeige owner hasn't installed a FireWire card?
