You could build a 750G external cheaper with some shopping, waiting for a sale on a bare 750G HD.
There are currently much cheaper/GB drives around, but they're smaller in capacity. A few weeks ago, Fry's had the 400G version for $139.
To me, $280 is not a bad price for a FW/USB combo with a 16MB cache. And it's also got some kind of backup function. But you are paying a little premium for a lot of storage in one HD.
It's not *that* long a go where a bare 500G HD was going for the same price. So in a couple of months that price could plummet. Or not. Once the Costco price it gone, it *could* be a while before Fry's or somebody comes close.
That's a lot of storage in a very small footprint.
I'm certainly tempted.
And impatient.
