Linksys WRT54GC Router Firmware Update Problem
#1
I have a Linksys WRT54GC Wireless Broadband Router. It has worked fine since I bought it. Several months ago, my son's MacBook started dropping the connection on a regular basis for 10 - 15 seconds before he is able to reconnect. (No one else is having any problems even though they are using crappy Belkin USB wireless adapters!)

I went to the Genius Bar at the local Apple Store and they told me I need to update the firmware on the router. I downloaded the Zip file. When I un-Zip it, I get a folder with a text file and a disk image file (.img). When I double click on the disk image file, I get an error message which says: Not recognized.

I downloaded the Zip file in both FireFox and Safari to see if that makes a difference. When I called Linksys, they said it should be a .bin file. Is Stuffit Expander causing the file to be labeled wrong?

I don't want to trash this router by using the wrong file to update the firmware.

Any suggestions? (Linksys basically said they can't help with a Mac!)
