How much does iMovie project shrink in going to DVD?
#2
must ... resist ... temptation ... to torch ... obvious n00b ... so much pain ...

Hi!

The goal of iMovie is to allow you to edit your video the way you want, and it's up to iDVD to make that project fit onto a DVD. Using conventional blank DVD media, your project can't be longer than two hours. It's not important how big the project is in iMovie; iDVD will compress it to fit as long as it's under two hours.

A conventional DVD holds 4.6GB of data, and the newer dual-layer DVDs hold about 8.5GB of data. With MPEG-2 (the standard format DVDs are encoded into) that works out to a hair over 2 and 4 hours respectively.

Make sure you're using the latest versions of iMovie and iDVD; the many improvements to thsoe programs are sure to help you make your project better!

For further or more detailed help, try checking the help files in both apps, or pick up a copy of "iMovie and iDVD 6: The Missing Manual" at your local megabookseller.

(gasp) Whew!
