I personally looked at these units. They certainly weren't like new - but they also were in what I'd consider to be 'fair' condition.
They were also sold, tested to note their exact issues - and our criteria for what made something bad was pretty strict as well.
At $39 for an iBook that is still functional, but with known bad parts - well - I think in all the cases, the sum of the parts is worth more than the whole we sold them for.
