SoCal, our house, 1921-no basement. Neighbors house, 1918-small basement. Only one other basement on our street. The majority of older houses in this area, even those from the 1890s, don't have true basements, if any. Those that have anything, usually only have a small 'root cellar'.
Most everything from the 60s on is built on a slab. Only thing you'll find on a raised foundation will be a custom home.
