Saw it and loved it; took my whole family. As I recall, it was rated PG for "some scenes of mild peril and scatological humor". (i.e., some animal poop gets flung on people) Maybe a couple of crotch hits (as in the previews). I don't think there was even a bad word, though someone uses the word "penis" a few times (when speaking about an animal). I would imagine that got added to make sure the film wasn't "G", which is box office death, arguably.
My almost-six-year-old daughter has been asking to see this since the first preview last year. She was on the edge of her seat for most of it, though the "grown ups talking" scenes bored her a bit.
But, yes, the movie has a great message (not necessarily religious, either) and is suitable for the whole family.
