Are you sure it's a "mouse"? maybe it's the ball from a trackball?
as a follow up to the cockroach story and the yogurt (STF): in college a roommate saw a mouse on the kitchen table and took a broom with a long stick and played "pool" with the mouse. he hit the poor guy so hard that the internal organs were spilled on the table. Of course none of use wanted to clean that mess, so we let it dry up for a few days and the vacuumed it up
