Let me defend my colleague briefly by saying that, although imported and regional beers were 'available' in the 70's, they were not per se 'accessibile'. Your local supermarket did not have a 'designer beer section' like they do now.
Let me also defend Budweiser- it's still #1 because it is cheap and plentiful. Phony-ID bearing high school and college students all over the USA drink a lot of it.
Heck, the CEO of my Fortune 1000 company prefers Budweiser, and the man can afford to buy whatever the heck he wants. Of course, he also drives a 5 year old Buick and pumps his own gas.
