I use my SlingBoxes on Comcast all the time--I watched a recorded San Jose Sharks game last night remotely. The upload speed is usually just under 300K and that is fine but not great.
Routers are so cheap these days--that is the way to go....but stick to name brands since the tech support might be needed for set up...I would stick with the models used on the SlingMedia support page, since they have it step by step there (usually just works).
Some Slingers have had trouble opening the correct port on Airport extremes...and in this case you wouldn't gain any advantage with the extreme for you Slinging.
