this happens quite often in the real world (as in live auctions). I have been to many, many auctions where the auctioneer will start off at $200 with no hands and then have to go to a starting price of $25 to garner interest. Usually, the item ends up right around where he started, but sometimes, it goes for much more. It's known as getting there the "hard way."
