I missed the mention in last night's post that the video card you found once you could run the AHT disk was the Rage 128 Pro instead of the stock Radeon 7500. The Rage Pro is definitely not compatible with most if not all 16:10 wide screen displays. A list of available resolutions is here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58756. Sounds like time to find an inexpensive card that is a little bit newer. The original was probably pulled by someone looking to upgrade their video card.
P.S. Tech specs for the 20" Cinema display list just three resolutions, lowest was 1024x640. In theory that is available from the DVI port of the Rage 128 Pro, but there might be another incompatibility involved.
