BIG, BIG thanks to XPostFacto & SuperDuper
#1
We woke up Sat. morn. to discover that my wife's 1-year old iMac G5 17" Rev A, had succumbed in the night to the fatal leaking capacitor syndrome. Fortunately I had the foresight months ago to buy a serial ATA to standard ATA adapter. I pulled her SATA drive, hooked it up thru the S>P converter, then thru an IDE to USB 2 adapter to my iMac G5 and cloned it to a Firewire backup drive using SuperDuper! 2, a truly sooperdooper app. Hauled the imac off 40 miles to Tacoma to CompUSA for repair -- no idea when we'll see it again.

I'd been rebuilding a Beige for my grandson and had put XPostFacto, OSX, and an ATI 7000 Mac Edition card in it, all of which work perfectly -- thank you Ryan Rempel (and Larry for having the foresight to sponsor XPF). I wasn't sure the Beige would boot from the cloned Firewire drive -- NO PROBLEM. I discovered I had an old USB 1.1 card I didn't know I had, and tried it (the one I had I knew about didn't like the ATI video card or v.v.) and it works like a champ.

So the wife has her computer back with all the bells and whistles (albeit the golem version), for which she is being *unusually* nice to me.

Unfortunately, my poor grandson doesn't get his new Beige until his grandma gets her iMac back...

Where would we be without the likes of Ryan Rempel and the SuperDuper! guys, David Nanian and Bruce Lacey? Up the creek, that's precisely where.
