Help! Did Brother driver just kill my MDD?

OMG, what's going on?? I was having problems printing from my MDD (10.4.11) to my Brother MFC7420. So I deleted several duplicate MFC7420 printers in the Printer Utility, then downloaded the latest driver from Brother, then installed it. The final step of the install is a restart. Which I did. Now the MDD sounds like it's spinning, but the monitor is black. Several forced restarts (via the MDD power button) did not solve the problem, even with the shift key pressed.

I forced open the DVD drive with a paper clip and inserted Disk Warrior, restarted via the power button and held down "C" hoping that Disk Warrior would work. Again, a completely black monitor.

Any suggestions? I'm trying not to panic.
