Yup, Steptoe and son was one of our favorite sitcoms when I lived in England as a lad. Sanford and son was obviously a copy.
Similarly, "All in the Family" was a direct copycat version of the 60s British comedy "Til Death Us Do Part", which had pretty much identical characters to the Archie Bunker family.
