Just goes to show how some people can be really gifted in certain areas, and surprisingly retarded in others. Genius in some ways, stubbornly superstitious in others.
Example (an actual genius) Sir Issac Newton.
The Law of Gravity. A historic contribution to science, no doubt. But Newton also believed some pretty bizarre and unscientific things. He was a follower of the Occult. He had weird ideas about gold, and sex. Newton believed the menstrual blood of whores has magical properties. These are just a few of his understandably less popular theories.
Can't be smart in every area, that's for sure...
