Really. Let me make sure we have your sentiment understood correctly. Millions of parents who raise children in America, including people who adopt, and those who care for foster children--according to your description--are bringing children up in a "toxic environment" just by being in "present day" America?
Which version of America do you think is less "toxic" that they should be raised in, other than "present day" America? The 1930s? The 1950s? The majority of people who raise children outside of cults, out here in the wilds of "present day America" with the rest of us, are doing just fine, thank you.
People seem to be conflicted. They don't want to support negligent child molesting cult leaders, that would be too creepy, but they SURE don't want to support the goverment's right to intervene. That's even WORSE.
If an individual family was reported or found to be involved in something like this, where two or three minors had been impregnated by adults, and the parents or guardians responsible for them were charged with neglect, or rape, or abuse, or brainwashing them into some theistic cult that practices polygamy, few here would have a problem with the State Authorities Intervening.
Wouldn't their "civil rights" be just as precious, and just as violated if it was just one small family? Or is State Authority viewed as "civil rights violators" for removing the minors because it's multiple cases instead of just one case? Or is it because those being charged have the cloak of religion to hide behind?
Clearly, the only reason people are troubled about rights violations is because it involves hundreds of minors, all at once. Then it's alarming. The State's being far too authoritarian and overzealous, violating their rights. If it was the same exact crimes were investigated involving only a handful of adults, and a handful of children, no problem. Or, a hundred cases individually, involving dozens of different families, over a period of five years, no problem. then no one is disturbed by the State's intervention. Even if it still adds up to five hundred minors.
I think the issue of finding foster care, or mandating temporary government care for three kids during an investigation doesn't bother anybody, it only bothers people because the numbers are so large and it's all from one group. Otherwise, an individual case is an individual case, even when there's multiple individual cases all at once. There's no legal difference.
