What the heck were you doing in the passing lane with people coming up behind you (or perhaps I don't understand what you were doing)? Nobody should be blocking faster traffic in the left lane (and it is illegal in some states) unless passing a slower vehicle on the right. Unfortunately, this is not enforced much in the U.S. but it sure is in much of Europe.
