I think I found the culprit. It was some "print monitor" (_lp) process. I think it has to do with the Laser Printer (Brother) I recently acquired. Even after resetting PRAM and SMC, that process started upon restart and used 100% of one CPU. Once I killed it, the fans slowed down and stopped.
