[quote blusubaru]Get yourself a kill-a-watt and measure the devices. My G4 server that runs 24/7 draws ~220 watts constant. More at startup. Vacuum cleaners, blow dryers, dish washers, clothes dryers, microwaves, etc. are all very high (most 1000w + from my testing experiments). I haven't tested a fridge or freezer yet.
My G4 server that runs 24/7 draws ~20 watts constant, it's a PowerBook G4 400 MHz with an external FW drive that is spun down most of the time. It has a Kill-a-watt monitoring it 24/7.
While all of those other things that you mentioned draw a lot, they don't run 24/7, especially something like a microwave. 220 watts would be almost 30% of my average total household electrical usage for the past month.
My last electric bill was $65.06 for 525 KWH for 29 days. That averages to about 755 watts per hour.
