As far as the resolution, Will is correct that there is no 1080p broadcast and probably never will be. However, there IS 1080i broadcast which is the same resolution, only interlaced instead of progressive. So there is a reason to get a TV which can display 1080 (either i or p) even if you're only watching broadcast material. (If it can do 1080p then it can do 1080i but the opposite isn't always true.)
