Not sure.. but it sounds like some goofy DNS issue.
When it can't properly identify a site, it's redirectlng to an advertising site as it's default.
I've seen that a couple times when the DNS Server for the host that's hosting a web site I maintain goes down. Try to get to the page, and it redirects to a seemingly random page full of ads.
