Need advice on removing baseboards when installing new tile and hardwood floors

You do not want to run hardwood flooring right up to a baseboard. The floor will buckle the first time the humidity goes up. You need at least a 1/4" gap between the flooring and basebaord and that gap is covered with shoe molding. Listen to your brother-in-law.
