Best way to replace macbook drive?
#7
[quote freescotland]I am upgrading my hd in macbook with one of our sponsors hitachi's and need to move my old data onto the new, bigger drive.

Is it worth buying an external 2.5 case to keep the old 120 hd or just move it all to one of my external drives and sell the 120?

Any cheap external sata firewire 2.5 box would work I guess.

Any advice?

Oh and one more time, Super Duper worth the cost or just use CCC?
Did this just today with the Hitachi 320GB from OWC.

1. I cloned the existing 80GB drive to an external GUID formatted FW drive using SuperDuper.
2. Shut down MacBook and removed old HD and installed new 320GB Drive.
3. Booted off external FW drive and SuperDuper cloned back to internal 320GB drive.
4. Rebooted off internal drive to test that all is good. All is good.

Interestingly, booted off the FW drive and cloning BACK to the internal 320GB drive was much quicker than the original clone TO the FW drive.

First clone was about 14MB/sec. Second clone back to the blank internal drive was at 24MB/sec.

Haven't decided what to do with the 80GB drive that was removed.
