I lived in a red state for 10 years (Virginia). Right next to the king of the "Moral Majority" in fact. I can only think of one time I met a stereo-typical red-stater.
We were interviewing day-care providers and when to one's home. She had cut out a magazine add and taped it to her kitchen wall. It was a picture of W with a caption that said "Our President" or "Our Leader" or something like that.
I'm sure it will be replaced with a similarly tasteful portrait of Obama, should he get elected.
A co-worker (who is French) got verbally assaulted at the grocery store. Some redneck was yelling at her for not supporting the glorious war in Iraq. She is very shy and quiet and went her car and cried. If I were her, I would have retorted, "Hey shit-kicker, I make more money than you and pay more taxes, so I am supporting this war a hell of a lot more than you are, you un-patriotic douche-nozzle."
