I've called his office about specific legislation in the past, several times-- I always ask for him directly-- never been put through.

I guess BL thinks he should have a direct hotline to Barack. Or maybe he's better connected than we know?
Whenever I call any of my government representatives, I always ask for them personally, and never expect to be put in direct contact, but now and then I do get a surprise.
