What is your favorite children's story or book?
#28
The Rainbow Goblins (read it to my own kids)

The Little Red Lighthouse and The Great Gray Bridge
Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel
Make Way for Ducklings
Stone Soup

...all inspired by watching Captain Kangaroo read them to his audience.

Also read ALL the ORIGINAL Tom Swift Books by Victor Appleton - a gift from my uncle when I was about 10. They were his in the 20s. First time I encountered the term: aero-plane (he said, soaringly!).

All the Hardy Boys mysteries, Penrod and Sam by Booth Tarkington - now that I think about it, the list is quite endless.

I have wonderful and great memories of reading when I was a kid. My imagination took flight - no question about it. Yea, I watched tv and went to the movies, but I always enjoyed the process of settling in to read for extended periods of time. I found it quite easy to embrace the process.

I feel bad for young folks who either don't seem to have the patience for it, or who are so tragically unable to do it well, that the joy becomes a chore and is therefore dismissed as worthless. A curiosity, perhaps, but a worthless one to many.
