Attendance at Inauguration will be huge

I've received a few calls today for people looking for tickets. Most of them seem to be little old African-American ladies who probably remember life under Jim Crow.

I attended Clinton's inauguration in 1997. Your ticket gave you a pass to stand on a certain section of the Mall. Big video screens were present. That night, there were Inaugural balls all around town. You'd stand around in your tux, eat rubber chicken, get in line for the cash bar and wait for the President and First Lady to show up (we waited until 2 am), make some insipid, brief quip, dance and then leave. Then everyone rushes for the coat check.

The parties around DC that weekend were much more fun and had free food and drink.

A now-deceased friend of mine was at one of those balls. I think I remember that he said the Clintons did not show up until really late. It would be funny if it was the same ball.
