I remember being surprised when I traveled from Boston to Canada that the government there actually owned the retail liquor outlets and determined hours and pricing.
As odd as the New England Blue Laws were then, the Canadian laws seemed odder.
People lined up at the state liquor store overnight, like a current day WalMart crew they would be there early and anxious. Perhaps the only difference is the addiction.
