I'm thinking of a tool and I don't know what it's called

What do you call the tool that reproduces the surface features of a 3D object so you can copy it? It's a row of pins that you loosen a nut and place it over a 3d surface - like a piece of wood molding - and the pins move to conform to the shape then you tighten the nut and you can now trace the pattern so you can reproduce it. I was searching under molding pin gauge but nothing and my head is starting to hurt. :banghead:

They used to sell an item very similar that let you press your face into a block of metal pins and it would form the 3D contour of your face. You would have considered this to be in the executive toy group along with the swinging balls thingie.
