A 28-year old vet has nothing to lose? It didn't say 18-19-year olds, it said 18-29-year olds. Most of those in the younger segment don't vote. Voter participation rises with age so this statistic is weighted toward those in the upper end.
As to losing their idealism, most never had any. Too bad your neo-cons didn't lose their idealism before grabbing power, huh?
