I figured it was down today because of speculation that Jobs pulling out of Macworld meant his health had deteriorated.
There are many reasons why Apple may want to discontinue Macworld participation:
- trade shows are too expensive i.e., provide insufficient return
- the expectation of big product introductions at that time is too constraining
- to curtail the stock gaming that occurs around big events like Macworld
- to end the the idiotic speculation about his health every time Jobs appears in public and the ridiculous FUD re: succession
- to obliterate the frequently made assertion that 'Jobs is Apple and Apple is Jobs'
- the general decline of trade shows as viable marketing tools and pull-outs by many major exhibitors
Apple will hold its own events whenever it wants, presented by whomever it wants, with participation by selected commercial partners.
