I agree. He should have asked for a statewide recount. The 2000 election was Gore's to lose and he did just that. Keeping the still-popular Clinton at arm's length was a major strategic blunder. Whatever Clinton's personal shortcomings, they never rubbed off on Gore, who had the reputation of being a boy scout. 2004 was the same. It should have been a cakewalk for Kerry but he pulled a Dukakis and thought himself above responding to the Swift Boaters until the damage was done. Obama finally broke the Democrats penchant for snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
