The Opera House is directly to the west of City Hall, across the street (behind it).
I wasn't in the movie, I have to go to the State Building a lot and the Grant Building a couple of blocks away from there and I just watched them shoot scenes. But they invited people to become extras and lots did.
These are the trees that extend across the plaza from City Hall - in "Body Snatchers" - towards the Asian Arts Museum (former city library) and the New Library to the south of it (the Angels in the movie "City of Angels) rested in the interior of the new library in the movie.)
