We have a LOT of coyotes in our neighborhood - neighbors who had cats that INSISTED on going out built a "habitat" under their deck after one of the cats went missing.
The cats had about a 10' x 12' space with grass, bushes and logs to climb on and a cat flap that allowed them in and out at will - but they were entirely safe from the coyotes and raccoons.
The caught birds and mice and voles that were stupid enough to venture into the enclosure, but I sort of put that to a wildlife darwin award - if you are stupid enough to go into the lion's den, don't be surprised if you are killed.
