Why do they plaster over women's freckles on tv?

Watching "Parenthood" tonight on NBC.

Not a great show so far, but Lauren Graham is pretty decent to watch... except that I keep getting distracted by the fact that they've painted her face with what appears to be a matte white exterior latex before applying the rest of her makeup.

I might not have noticed, but I'm watching in OTA HD and these details show up.

I've been catching up on "Remington Steele" reruns on Hulu and they did the same thing to Stephanie Zimbalist only they left her with what looks like an orangey burnt-umber oil base-coat so the freckles showed through depending upon the lighting.

I think freckles are usually quite attractive on women.

Do people actually get offended or repulsed by women with freckles or are these just examples of paranoid and overzealous makeup artists who think that if anyone sees real skin pigment on tv the world will end?
