Is it possible one of the monster brats was allergic to the willow ?
My sister was allergic to a willow outside her bedroom window when we were kids that my father had planted when he was a teenager growing up in that same house. I never realized how much cutting that tree down bothered him and how much he had enjoyed watching it grow and mature until I got a call 20 years later from him wanting to know if cutting the maple tree down I had planted to replace the willow would bother me. The maple in HIS back yard an hour drive away from me.
Fond memories in the shade under both of them.
Plant another.
Even if it has to be cut down in 20 or 30 years because it has gotten too big.
It's the making of the memories under it that is important.
