Is creating a 10.4.11 install disk possible?

How can you tell if the Apple Retail disk containing 10.4.6 will install on an intel if I only have that one MBP?

The cloning thing is a good idea and I might have to do that. Do you think SuperDuper is the best for that?

Thanks so much.

No retail 10.4 discs were ever sold by Apple that would install on an Intel Mac of any sort. The only source for discs on the used market are the ones shipped with the Intel Mac's. You would have to find one for that model MacBook Pro or sometimes one from a later model will work.

Besides that, you could try contacting Apple's software disc replacement service, they can authorize shipping out a replacement installer disc for your MacBook Pro. It will be a DVD-R copy of the original if they still have ones going back that far. I used to have a contact article for that, but they have changed the Apple website since then. The last time I used it was when the refurbished Black MacBook I bought last Fall came with two copies of one of the installer DVD's and was missing the other. Since it was new, they sent it out no charge, there is/was a charge for replacing lost discs for older machines. I was transferred to them from the Applecare line.

(started work on this post earlier, but was interrupted. GGD got here first with the replacement service suggestion)
