just kidding. This is in fact a follow up to these 2 threads

Homeopathy treatment for Atopic Dermatitis (baby Eczema)?

sleepless in New Jersey (5 month old baby won't sleep much)

Well, here is the story. The pediatrician didn't know much about eczema. We even went to two different dermatologists, one of them a teaching faculty at a renowned medical school. They both told my wife "it's highly unlike it's something you eat" (since she is nursing, we were wondering if it has something to do with her diet).

Following some of the advice on the forum, we went to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia to see an allergist. Even before went there, we were taking careful notes of what wife was eating. She stopped eating any diary a few weeks earlier, that didn't help. Only when she eliminated a bunch of other foods (she was basically living on rice for a few days), the son got MUCh better, the Eczema was almost gone. But he still didn't sleep. She had once a single slide of pizza (with cheese) and he had a strong eczema flare the next day.

Anyway, when we went to the CHOP, we told them that we suspect he is allergic to 3 food: milk, eggs and peanuts. The milk and eggs came out positive, the peanuts negative. They advised us not to do too many tests since those could come out false positive and then wife would avoid those foods for no good reason.

Anyway, we got back home much more relaxed knowing that the link alergy-eczema has been confirmed by the doctor and we had now a way to keep it under control.

But the baby still would not sleep. That night, he looked just fine, no eczema, no scratching, yet at 3 AM he would be crying and we could not get any sleep. We purchased earlier a book that I didn't get a change to read. So at 3 AM I come downstairs and I start reading this book:

The Baby Whisperer Solves All Your Problems: Sleeping, Feeding, and Behavior--Beyond the Basics from Infancy Through Toddlerhood by Tracy Hogg

No kidding, I open to the chapter about sleep 4 month to one year, I read 3 pages about the PU/PD (Pick Up Put Down) method and I go back upstairs. Tell wife to get in bed and sleep. I do the PU/PD 3 times and the baby was asleep. At 5:30 AM (he was now sleeping 2 1/2 hours, a new record in the recent weeks) he wakes up again, I tell wife to stay in bed and I handle it. Again 2 PU/PD and he's asleep till 7:30 again.

The next day wife kisses me and asks me what I did' I show her the book. Read here Honey. We just did not have time to read that book before, it was sitting on the table for at least 2 weeks. We were to tired and desperate before.

Now she read almost the whole book, I am also reading it and it's a great book. I am amazed how fast that method worked. It's been a few weeks now since we get some more sleep. We're still not out of the tunnel yet, but we do see the end of the tunnel. There it sill some other food that bothers him, since he still has some milder episodes of eczema. And he still wakes up several times per night, but not every 5-10-20 minutes like before. Now we sleep 2-4 and sometimes even 5-6 hours.

Life is much better. Of course, I would not exchange him for anything in the world.

thanks again for all our good suggestions in both of those threads.
