He has a good point, a major cultural shift has quietly happened in the last five years. What was once exotic is now quite standard. Once reserved for erotic dancers, Brazilian bikini wearers, and decadent Hollywood actresses is now a completely ordinary practice for soccer moms, church ladies, and elementary school teachers. It's the new normal!
A local newsmagazine writer, Jane Adams, wrote a piece for the a webzine Newsplink in March 2009, called "The Pudenda Agenda" Jane interviewed a few of the women at her fitness club, and the most oft-heard reason was some variation on "men expect it" I personally don't, but then, I'm a 50 year-old male, not a 25-year-old male, the girlie magazines I grew up on didn't feature this grooming habit, now, it's almost militantly adhered to in porn. Who are these young guys who 'expect' this? Women with normal pubic hair are now called "hairy". I object to this characterization.
Since grooming pubic hair is a private matter, no one really has meaningful statistics, but bare pubes are clearly more popular and normal than they were a few years ago. If you're a girl, and many of your peers are doing it, young women are likely to go along, as it's normalized, like any other kind of grooming. Also, as I'm sure many of you know, many women report a completely personal (self-gratifying) motive for doing it, having nothing to do with men. :monkey:
