I've always heard buy Applecare for laptops .... I never have, and I never have needed it. However, I have received multiple beyond-one-year repairs (the iBook screen failure, MacBook chipping and discoloration) for free. ... generally, I guy a laptop every year or so anyway so Applecare isn't a priority for me, but I can't imagine the thousands of dollars I'd have spent had I gotten Applecare on every Mac I've ever purchased ....
