"McDonald’s Senior VP Steve Russell denied the reports that surfaced earlier today. Russell said it is “completely false,” that his company has plans to cut health care benefits for some."
This is a new low for the WSJ in their war on health care reform.
I think this one is going to backfire though. What they've exposed is the dirty little secret that both large corporations with lots of minimum wage workers and big insurers don't want the public to think about much...They are charging these workers getting $7/hr up to $35 per week for a policy that caps at $10K/year (lower caps are available, as low as $1K.) Compare that to the cost of what most of us have, limits of what, a million? If there is any limit.
AND, 35% or more of that premium goes to administrative cost, not to medical care. What a fantastic deal for private insurers! And McDonald's gets to look heroic for offering "benefits."
So insurers and McDonalds owners and insurers, get off your duff and offer those workers some decent coverage that doesn't make you look like theives.

That's exactly the kind of junk that HCR needed to address, and did. Very large, highly profitable companies that offer that mess to low wage hourly employees and call it "medical insurance." What a joke. So companies like McDonalds have for years relied on taxpayers to subsidize their workers' healthcare while making billions in profits on their labor. It's about paying a fair share.
So how does the new law make McDonald's offer better insurance? What you have done is make little people lose what meager insurance they do have with no plans to pick them up. All this shows that collectivism needs force to make it work.
