Thanks tuqqer. That's what I needed to know. Jumping to music is also a great idea. Right now I am jumping much higher than I need to. I marvel at people who barely move when jumping.

Jumping ropes is an agility and stability cardio exercise. It trains most of your muscles but because it is a repetitive act you may get bored after a while.
Play something motivating on your DVD or a music that you love...it is really up to you. Good luck! Excellent idea anyway!

When it was obvious I was never going to be able to ski ever again much beyond straight downhill bunny slopes I even gave up the treadmill strengthening. Good for you if you stay with it.

It'll also help with your timing between the wrist flicks, your jump, and where that parabola strikes the floor—or reaches its bottom apex... I guess that would be technically a nadir?—you'll see what I mean. Related: you want to wear the right shoes when jumping. The soles can't have protruding edges, or they'll catch the rope. You want shoes that have a smooth, rounded front. There's a type of gym or walking shoe that works well for this. I used to try jumping barefoot, but I caught a toe once and I think I ended up breaking it, it hurt that bad.
