Since the cost of the phone is small compared to the cost of the contract, I would get a phone with more storage than you think you need.
Which capacity iPhone 4S would you get?

Another thing to consider is the size of apps and how apps are just going to keep on getting bigger and bigger as the processors get better and better and can handle more complex graphics, etc.
I wouldn't get anything less than 32GB for that reason alone.

My 16gb capacity in my iPhone 4 has just started becoming a problem in the last couple of months. I know iCloud will help to some degree but I'm thinking 32gb, as I agree that apps may become larger and more complex to take advantage of the processing capabilities.

Hey, I'm a packrat myself, and I fight my urge to keep everything and carry everything with me. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but a property that people should recognize in themselves. The amount of stuff I haul along on a family camping trip drives my wife crazy.

I'm confused. iCloud is not a streaming service according to Apple, so how does it lesson the need for local storage? Everything you play from iCloud is synced locally to your iOS device, or so Apple keeps saying (I am not a developer and do not have access to iOS betas).

32 minimum.
I ran out of space on my 16 almost right away. mostly apps (games! =) I have hardly any photos or music -- and "packrat" or not, playlists are the key. lots of games are big -- even Uno is 110 megs. I got Rage HD and Asphalt 6 when they were free -- each 800 megs. Navfree GPS is 1.8 gigs...

how many thousands of dollars is that monthly bill going to cost you in the long run?
get the largest capacity. its really not that much more expensive.

I quickly came to the realization that I didn't use or even need a majority of the stuff I had initially installed on my 8GB 3G, and I haven't come close to filling it since. (I don't and won't use it for MP3s.) The 16GB 4S will be plenty for me, and I doubt I will even bother reinstalling everything that I still have on the 3G.
