I've been using cat shampoo and my hair is clean, smells good, conditioned, and detangled

Hair always looks better with any change in shampoo because the new one washes out the crud the old one wouldn't dissolve.

I hope the original post is true. It will really make me happy (except for that part about the kitties no longer being around).

"Crud the old one wouldn't dissolve" is a super poor way to phrase it, but it is essentially true. The "crud" is the buildup of the shampoo itself which gets nuked by the new brand.

I don't know if you remember the way old Neutragena Shampoo commercials claimed that using their shampoo every so often in between your regular shampoos would restore shine and blahbitty blah blah, but that is all that was about. Any change in shampoo will do this.

This also works with laundry detergent. It's why when switching to a new detergent, it almost always seems like the new stuff is so wonderful.

Not clear from the OP whether the cats are gone-gone, or just weren't in the room at the time...

It's like my old friend in HS used to do; you buy one bottle of the beer you really want and then a six of the store-brand stuff. After the first beer, the rest don't matter.
