dealmac may be dead, but dealnews is still there. And has advertisers. I hardly think it's going away any time soon. I still see it mentioned in articles where they mention daily deals sites.

It wasn't a loss for them (the forums) since it grew as an adjunct to their main business and eventually became what they saw as a time consuming liability expense.

They may have missed a boat by regarding it that way but Larry didn't.

Dealmac was a truly great forum, until it was overrun by plain and simple rudeness: people posting statements that they never would've said face-to-face. It was horrible to witness.

Larry's decision to create two forums was the major key to the success here.
