Why do I need a juicer?

IMHO, throwing away all that fiber seems like a waste of nutrition.

just eat more fruit and veggies!

Bingo, that's precisely why I use mine -- to get more fruit and veggies in my diet. And since I'm not using it for juice, I'm really getting all the fiber. (Essentially I'm just converting whole frozen fruit into a dessert...)

Edit: oh, and I'd eat peanut butter regardless, but now I get homemade. Lightly roasted with sea salt + honey = homemade goodness.

You're probably right, rz, but what about the "roughage?" Wouldn't a lot of the magic of fiber be because of it's "roughage" state, even after it's chewed? It seems like if it's ground into tiny pieces, or near-liquid, it might not do it's work. I don't know. I'm just asking.

Also, with your Vitamix, have you ever counted the carbs? They can add up quick.

I think Georgia-Pacific, Kimberly Clark, Marcal and P&G all have stakes in juicer companies.

I had a juicer years ago and gave up on it because it was too hard to clean. Maybe they've improved.

My jaw would hurt from eating all those carrots and celery stalks in a glass of juice. Juice doesn't replace normal servings of vegetables (and fiber), it supplements it.

I would get one if I had the money and counter space. I'm sure if you're organized and diligent, you could improve your health.

Unless you're doing something like mixing dough (which we've done), cleaning a Vitamix is easy. After you've finished using it, put in a drop or two of liquid soap, run the blender on the variable setting for about 10 seconds, then rinse it out. NEVER put it in the dishwasher.
