QR codes—have I screwed up?
#11
Mr D, I spoke to my son who wrote an scamming app for QR codes for "those Norton guys" says that bik nailed it. Your "upgraded" takes you to the site directly. Shorting is for counting the hits for the site by the sender.

Based on the advice offered in this thread, I used qr-code-generator.com to generate this code…yesterday I got an email saying my 14-day free trial had expired

You received this advice…

…but didn't take it.

Am I totally screwed?

Yes, you are.

Is this what you were trying to do?
(For something important, it's probably a good idea to check things out before finalizing)

OK, I just "upgraded" to a free account. Does it send you to the Chicago Landmarks website now?

Ok, so it's "fixed" for the time being.

At some point in the future when that company goes T/U, will the code still take you to the site?

I'm guessing if hit tracking isn't needed, a static code would be as good for as long as the site it's linked to, without middleman dependency?

I don't have just for generating my own codes, but it's good to know about this.

Thanks for the link, bik.

Have you tried talking to your son about this?
Writing software for scammers is not much better than being a scammer yourself.

Article Accelerator, I'm a little confused by your scolding. You're the one who recommended the site I used—and now you're telling me I was foolish to take your advice?

SDGuy, I'm not clear what you mean by

Two weeks ago, I generated the code from the site recommended by Article Accelerator, posted it here and asked people with smartphones to check that it worked, then I had the panels printed. Is there some further step I should have taken?

That link was the second of two I mentioned in my first posting. I followed up with a second posting to your original thread to point out that the first link I recommended required no registration and allowed you to create QR codes in many formats including EPS and SVG.

See the link I posted above.

Sorry, Black. He developed the anti-scam app for Symantec and they patented it . He is a developer for the company with 17 years experience.
And no, I just need not to type when it's over 100 degrees in my office.
